History

Caputh Hall is a striking, Arts and Crafts style, community building; sited directly opposite Caputh Parish Church. It makes a significant contribution to the streetscape of this picturesque village; with a number of buildings retaining the Glendelvine estate colours of blue and white. Caputh Hall was designed by Ebenezer Simpson and built in 1909 for Sir Alexander Park Lyle, who then gifted the building to the community by Deed of Trust. The hall was later extended in 1936. To learn more about Caputh Hall's history, see local historian, Jim Black, talk from our YouTube channel.

In 2018, a renovation project was undertaken to bring the building up to standard for 21st century use. After a short period of closure in 2022, the hall was re-opened with upgraded facilities including disabled access. The Committee hosted the first Caputh Festival to celebrate; a three-day event including music, comedy, local stallholders and a family dog show.

The committee are now focused on making the hall available for regular groups, community events and commercial hire, to ensure it reaches its full potential as a community asset.
